Wood, Tile, Slate, Composition Shingle & Metal Roofing
Superior Roofing Materials
At Kettler Roofing, we help you choose the best roofing material to fit the style of your home, as well as your budget. We have extensive knowledge of all types, from composition shingles and metal roofing to concrete and clay tile. In order for you to make an informed choice, we have provided brief descriptions of each type of roof. You can view all of these shingles in our Roof Construction Gallery.
Composition Shingles
Kettler Roofing offers three types of composition shingles: Three Tab, Laminated and Specialty. All are available in a variety of different colors. Three-Tab Shingles are the most common because they are inexpensive and easy to install, but they only have a 20-year warranty. Laminated Shingles are thicker, have a longer life expectancy and come with a 30-year warranty. When installed, they have a thatch-like appearance that helps hide any defects in your roof deck. Specialty Shingles, also known as the exotics, are designed to resemble tile, slate or wood. They can be thick and heavy and can be impact-resistant or hail-resistant. These shingles come with 40-year, 50-year and lifetime warranties, along with lower insurance costs.
Tile Roofs
Tile roofs can be made from two different materials: Concrete or Clay. Concrete Tiles are the most commonly used because they are available in a variety of brands, styles and colors and cost half as much as clay tiles. Styles include large barrel, small barrel, flat, and bar tile. Clay Tiles are stronger, longer lasting and also come in a variety of brands, colors and styles. They are manufactured using a complex melting process, which causes their prices to vary from $200 to $2,000 per square.
Metal Roofs
There are three types of metal roofs: Screw Down, Standing Seam and Metal Shingles. Screw Down Metal Panels are the most common type of residential metal roofing because they come in a variety of patterns and colors, including baked on mill finish and galvalume. They are also relatively cheap. Standing Seam Metal Panels are used on commercial buildings and upscale residential homes. Unlike screw down metal panels, they have no exposed fasteners and are much less likely to develop a leak. This type of metal roofing is expensive and labor intensive. Metal Shingles are available in a variety of styles, colors, and materials. They can be made to resemble wood, tile, slate and symbolic designs such as a fleur-de-lis. They are the most expensive and least common metal roofing material.
Slate Roofs
As one of the oldest roofing materials available, Genuine Slate is beautiful, natural and durable. It is also thick, heavy and very expensive. Due to its weight, it can only be used on homes with roofs designed to hold slate. Imitation Slate is made from plastic, rubber or concrete, and is designed to resemble genuine slate. While it costs less, it is still considered to be an expensive roofing material.
Wood Shingles & Shakes
The three major wood roofing products are Heavy Shakes, Medium Shakes and Wood Shingles. Made from cedar, redwood or cypress, wood roofs have a natural beauty, but they have a short life expectancy, burn easily and are costly.
